Creating a High-Impact Conference With a Hidden Opening Reveal
The AFG Next Conference required a large-scale, polished plenary setup supported by multiple breakouts, along with a fully hidden reveal for AFG’s 40th Birthday. Through custom concealment, precise rigging and a choreographed sequence of lighting, music, kabuki and confetti, we delivered a high-impact opening moment that elevated the entire event experience.

Project Brief
The AFG Next Conference at The Star Gold Coast required a large-scale, polished plenary setup supported by multiple breakout rooms. This year, AFG also wanted to elevate the opening session with a surprise reveal for the company’s 30th Birthday. Something dramatic, memorable, and completely hidden from delegates until the moment it launched.
Challenges & Approach
The biggest challenge was designing a plenary that looked entirely standard at first glance, while secretly incorporating the infrastructure and space needed for a major reveal. Everything had to remain under wraps until showtime.
We achieved this with custom printed signage and banners that were hidden seamlessly into the rigging and covered by drape. With a carefully choreographed lighting sequence, confetti cannons and a kabuki drop that triggered at the climax of a carefully selected music track, it landed its goal delivering both surprise and emotional lift.
Outcome
The result was a conference that delivered on all core production requirements while also opening with a high-energy milestone reveal that landed perfectly. The kabuki drop, lighting, music, and confetti sequence created a standout moment for delegates, setting the tone for a memorable and successful event from the very first session.
